If you have lived or visited Nashville in the last 5 years, one thing that you will have noticed is that Nashville is growing, and growing fast. I hate to compare it to a virus(considering the last 3 years), but the growth seems to be out of control. Now you can look at this in two different ways. One way is to view it with reluctance, to yearn for the old small town charm, and to say things like, "I don't even recognize this place anymore." The other way is to embrace the change and try to use it to your advantage and use the citys' growth to facilitate the growth of your familys' wealth and cache. I can see the perspective from both angles. Nashville certainly has changed a lot. Before the 1980's, Nashville only had one skyscraper. The city was known as the charming little hub of country music. The city was definitely not known as an economic hotspot or as one of the cultural landmarks of America. Chances are that unless you found yourself riding through Middle Tennessee on I-40, then you had probably never been to Nashville. Now of course, If you were into country music in the pre-90's, then you had probably heard of Waylon Jennings, Dollie Pardon, or Hank Williams and in the back of your mind you probably loosely connected them with being from Nashville. But other than that, the cultural and economic impact of Nashville was small and concentrated. Over the last 10 years, Nashville has taken on a completely new and transformative facelift. It has officially become a BIG city, and people all over the World are coming to visit and start businesses in what has become one of the most thriving cities in America. During the pandemic, thousands of people started looking for places to live where they could thrive and not be held down by pandemic restrictions. A quickly growing Nashville started to see the second influx of new transplants to grace the city in the last decade. The three cities that you heard people talking about relocating to were Austin, Denver, and of course Nashville. Among the big cities in America, Nashville stands out as a truly authentic and original place to live and exist in. The music industry gives Nashville a distinction, but I think ultimately it is the southern charm that really draws people to move here. People here are just plain nice. Nashvillians are easy going and generally polite. You don't realize how easy going the people are here until you visit LA or New York City and then return back to Nashville, and you quickly realize that all though growing fast, Nashville still has a lot of its small town charm. You don't see a lot of angry people here, and you don't have to walk around feeling scared that you are gonna be mugged around every corner. No state taxes and the beautiful weather are obviously a plus. Nashville also has a lush history that goes back to the early 1800's. You can feel that history when you walk through the different areas of the city. Nashville is a mish-mash of old and new, and I think that adds to the charm. The entirety of the neighborhoods of South Nashville sits on top of the battlefield of the 'Battle of Nashville' from during the civil war. A big portion of citizens here literally live on top of a piece of important history. The army of the Cumberland was defeated and terminated in South Nashville, which ultimately was the biggest catalyst to the confederate army losing the American Civil War. That's just one of many historical touchstones that helps to give Nashville its allure. The people, the culture, the potential, and the charm are continuing to draw people to Nashville from all over the World. You can be pissed off about it, but ultimately if you live in a place that people are flocking to from all over the World, then you should consider yourself pretty lucky, because not many cities are even half as cool as Nashville is, even on their best days!
